Air Suspension
By Bryan Infusino (June 2003)

June is here an with any luck we will get some warm weather. June is usually the first month you can count on riding. This month I decided to talk about air suspension. Motorcycles have had air suspension before, but it has never been used to adjust ride height on a bagger. Air was used to control ride stiffness. This all changed when Legends came out with a complete air suspension for a softail. This suspension cannot only control the firmness of the ride, it also can raise and lower the height of the motorcycle within seconds. This suspension fits in the stock location of the factory shocks and installs in about 3 to 4 hours. We sold a Legend suspension at Firehouse, and I was very impressed with the quality of the product and believe it improved the ride. The kit was a direct bolt on and came with very clear instructions. A Legends system is not the cheapest system, but it was the first and did seem to be a very high quality product. If you are building a custom or want to improve your ride, I would highly recommend a Legends air suspension. Another complaint I have been getting is the nasty oil coming out of the airbox. The oil is coming from the breather hose. This hose is hooked up to the bottom of the air box if your bike is equipped with a Screaming Eagle high flow. The oil ends up at the bottom of the air box and all over your bike. There are a few different ways to correct your problem. The first is to run a remote breather hose. Just take the existing hose and extend it under the bike and put a breather at the end. The second is to replace the high flow with one that shoots the breather fumes into the venturi of the carburetor and back into the engine. MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR JUNE 28TH. OUR 3RD ANNUAL CUSTOMER APPRECIATION PARTY. Hope to see you all there. |
