The First Ride
By Bryan Infusino (April 2003)

April is here, and most of us will get our first ride sometime in either March or April. After your first ride you will start thinking how to make your bike cooler and faster. If you wait until April to work on your bike, you going to wat to change things that don't take a long time and won't cut into your riding time.

The most common upgrade to any Harley is the exhaust system. The hottest exhaust on the market right now is the Reinhart by Bub. Reinhart is a top ranked Nascar exaust builder who was hired by Bub to build the best Harley exhaust we have ever seen!! This exhaust not only performs well, it looks pretty narley! If you decide to change your exhaust system, don't forget to rejet your carburetor or remap your fuel injection. To make any exhaust system perform up to its highest portential you must have the correct air fuel ratio. On carburated this is very easy to adjust. It's a matter of changing a jet or needle, but when it comes to fuel injection you must remap or reprogram the computer. This can be done several different ways. The simplest way is to remap with a factory chip. This must be done with a scanner or computer. This works for most minor changes such as an exhaust or high flow airbox. The second way is by using a DFO (digital fuel optimizer). The DFO is made by Revtec and splices into the computer and allows you to adjust the fuel ratio. This also works well for minor changes. If you want the top of the line for fuel injection you will want a Power Commander. The Power Commander is made by Dynojet and can adjust you fuel injected bike to any performance upgrade you could dream of.

No matter what you decide to do to your bike, be ready for summer. This summer will be a great one, and you don't want to be left behind, so plan ahead.

I would also like to congratulate Kevin Koprovic and Leo Cucuato on thier first lace wins in the Chicago Supercycle bike show. Great Job Guy's!! Had a great time there, except for a few unruly (mainly 2) @#$%!? You know who you are! We won't forget.

Happy Spring!... until next month
