It's May and Riding Season
By Bryan Infusino (October 2001)

Riding season is upon us (finally!!) This month I decided to talk about Twin Cam Big Bore Kits. At FireHouse Performance we have put together a kit we feel will give you the best in performance and reliability. We have found that the Twin Cam can provide a lot of horsepower and still be as dependable as a stock one. The Twin Cam is built with enough room in the cylinders to bore them and give you the added cubic inches to make it a 95-inch Big bore.

If you buy a bore kit from Harley-Davidson, it comes with cylinders and pistons. The FireHouse Kit comes with pistons and gaskets, and we bore your existing cylinders. This not only saves you money but we custom fit every piston to every cylinder to maximize performance and engine life. Our kit comes with Wiseco Forged Pistons which are top quality pistons and lighter than stock ones, giving you a faster revving engine.

The twin cam engine came out in 1999 and has proven to be a good performer and a very reliable engine. If you decide to go with any big bore and want to gain even more performance, you could add a set of cams. The twin cam has two cams just like the name says. Early twin cams had problems with cam bearings, and if you plan to install cams on a '99 twin cam you should upgrade the cams and ears to the 2000 and up style. It's not that costly and could save you a lot of headaches down the road.

If you decide to do any upgrades on a twin cam you should sit down and figure out exactly what your looking for and have it installed by a certified shop. If you have any questions feel free to stop in at FireHouse Performance and I will gladly help you out.
