Where do you buy
your Harley's parts?
By Bryan Infusino (May 2001)

Most people who buy a Harley leave it stock for about 30 seconds, then they change the bike to look how they want it to. A lot of people ask me whose parts are better, Harley Davidson or the aftermarket. Well, it's not a simple question because they both offer their own qualities. Aftermarket parts have a broad range of parts, so you should know exactly what you want before you order or buy it. Harley Davidson parts do not usually have as broad of a selection, but some people only want to see Harley Davidson on their bikes. It makes me laugh when Harley Davidson buys aftermarket parts and puts their name on them. This shows me that they know that the aftermarket custom parts are quality parts and not simply mail-order cheap deals. The benefit of buying it from a shop is the knowledge that comes with the the part and the ability to stand behind it in the event of waranty issues. The range of parts for Harley Davidson motorcycles is endless. You can find parts from thousands of companies to make your bike you. Make sure you understand how to install the part regardless of where you buy it or have it installed. It's no fun to buy an expensive part only to ruin it, or something on your bike, while installing it. There is no better feeling than when you find the right part and have it installed properly on your bike. One area which I don't use factory parts is engine performance. I feel that the after market offers parts of higher quality and give great results. But, in other areas, such as a nacelle, I won't use anything but a genuine Harley Davidson part. The best thing to do is ask before you buy and buy from someone who will stand behind it. If you every have a problem feel free to stop in or call me. |
